Presidents Message

April 2017

Happy spring!  I hope that Mother Nature will remember that it really is spring and give us more of the weather we had in February than what we got in March.  I had business travel in Asia last month and my family was quite happy to tell me about the 70-degree weather in Connecticut.  Then I returned home to 30 and 40-degree weather.  I promise it is not my fault, folks.

ISM-CT has a great Forum on April 25th this year.  The theme is "Trending Now in Supply Management."  With the change in government this year, what can we expect and adapt to?  Our presenters and panel will be sharing their thoughts and challenges with topics like "Building a Strategy for Tomorrow - 10 Mega-trends for Supply Chain Managers;" a panel discussing "Trends and Current Challenges in Supply Management" and our annual economic forecast with Peter Gioia.  We may have a SURPRISE guest if their schedule allows it - stay tuned for more and register now!

Calling all members-

ISM-CT needs member volunteers to step up to be on our board and committees.  It doesn't take a lot of time and pays back in the reward of giving back to your profession as well as receiving 7 CEH credits/year.  I know what you’re thinking: I’m too busy, I couldn’t possibly have time for this, I’ve got other things I need to do with my time outside of work.  I had all the same thoughts.  I then decided to volunteer, found it really didn’t take as much of my time as I thought it would, found it really was rewarding, and wound up volunteering for an open Board of Directors position.  Five years later, I am still on the Board, now as President.  Plus, we need you!  Please think about it, and contact info@ismct.org for signing up!

Our program year has not ended.  We have two joint workshops with APICS and ASQ coming up in April and May.  In June, we have a seminar that will be held at Pfizer: "Essential Strategy Sourcing Tools" - sign up to reserve your seat.  We have a special Emerging Professionals event coming up in June as well.  We will have a tour of ESPN in Bristol; details to follow.  Check out our Event tab on our website, www.ismct.org, for all the details and how to register.

Yours in supply management,

John A. Toto, Jr., C.P.M.
