Strategic Supply Management

This six week online course focuses on the strategic business concepts prevalent in managing suppliers in the end-to-end global supply chain. Participants will focus on establishing and leveraging strong supplier relationships, incorporating the concepts of sustainability and the lean supply chain, logistics management, negotiation and conflict resolution and supply chain integration. This course is geared to those with 5 years or more of supply chain management experience, as well as managers of internal organizations who rely on strong supplier performance to meet operational and financial goals.

  • Module One: Supplier Relationship Management
  • Module Two: Sustainability and the Lean Supply Chain
  • Module Three: Managing Logistics
  • Module Four: Negotiation in the Global Environment
  • Module Five: Supply Chain Integration

The Online Process

These interactive and instructor lead courses are offered fully online using the CANVAS learning management system. This is an asynchronous process where students log on at their convenience, typically 4-5 days a week, to access content including lectures, podcasts, videos, and relevant articles and links from business and industry sources. Each week there will be two or three discussion questions posted in an interactive forum where students will post 100 to 250 word answers to pertinent questions and comment on the post of others, adding to the collaborative feel of the class. In addition, there will be a weekly assessment assigned that will integrate the course content with real life activities in their own departments and organizations. A companion supply management related book provides additional structure to the course.

These courses are not self-directed study. They are content rich courses focused on the objectives of the course with the instructor as an active participant. In an asynchronous online course there are no scheduled group meetings. Each student is responsible to access the course content, participate in discussion forums, and complete the assessments. The learning management system is quite easy to use and participants will find it intuitive. The instructor is also available to solve technology and interface issues should they occur. Note that CANVAS can be accessed from mobile devices.
