How B2B Marketplaces are Changing the Role of Procurement

Once limited to well-defined and low-cost goods, Business to Business Marketplaces have now emerged for a wide range of products and services.  Major players like Amazon are expanding their focus on the B2B space, and specialized platforms including have emerged to support custom services like research, consulting, and legal allowing customers to reap the benefits of competition and market efficiencies.  Find out how the landscape of B2B marketplaces is changing and the impact it will have on the role of the procurement.


Brian Bonnell, Sr. Director Strategic Partnerships,


 Brian is an engineer/MBA with extensive experience in the procurement and supply chain management.  Prior to joining he was an internal consultant driving strategic procurement projects at AstraZeneca, including the AstraZeneca Innovation Marketplace (AIM).  He developed the Strategic Sourcing function at Human Genome Sciences as the company launched its first commercial product, and built purchasing consortiums for non-profit industry associations while at VendorCentric.  He led several successful international projects as a process engineer at Merck & Co., and he has taught Supply Chain Management as an Adjunct Professor at Mount St Mary’s University.   At he is focused on collaborating with industry partners to break down barriers to external innovation.   Brian has a BS in Chemical Engineering, an MBA from Penn State and is currently completing a MS in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins.
