Supplier Quality Management: Partner or Adversary?

Toyota Expands Takata Air Bag Safety Recall. FDA expands recall of blood pressure drug due to cancer-causing agent. How often have you heard about product failures lately? It is not a coincidence that many of the root causes of the defect is always blamed on the “supplier.” Take Toyota and the air bag incident. It was a Takata air bag. A supplier! Same with the blood pressure drug. No surprise it too was blamed on a supplier problem! Who are these ‘poor performing’ suppliers? Who is responsible for their poor performance? Often your organization may be neglecting the supplier and getting just what you are willing to pay for or demand!

Today’s suppliers are an extension of our organizations and should be treated as a partner not an adversary. An effective supplier quality program should work towards developing a mutually beneficial relationship to benefit both supplier and processor (your organization).

In this free session, Juran’s CEO Joseph A. DeFeo will examine the simple, but made difficult, supplier quality management system. He will examine the supplier: selection, assessment, segmentation, monitoring and rewarding excellence in the supply chain. Learn how to develop an effective relationship with your suppliers and remove the burden of being shut down because your supplier did not understand your requirements or thought all your purchasing protocols only wanted lower costs and not better quality.
